The Lofts @ Leeson’s in Elwood Receives $100,000 Grant for Façade Renovation

Elwood, IN – On January 9, 2019, Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch and the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) announced a list of grant recipients in more than 70 rural Indiana communities.

​New Hope Services is pleased to announce that Lofts @ Leeson’s is the recipient of a $100,000 grant to renovate and improve the façade of the building. The Lofts is an historic adaptive reuse development of the former R. L. Leeson & Sons department store, which is currently being renovated into senior affordable housing.
 
"Today is a great day to celebrate all the successes, collaborative efforts and planning our Hoosier communities have achieved this past year," said Jodi Golden, OCRA executive director. "Our office was fortunate to help make our rural cities, towns and counties better places to live, work and play. I'm excited to see how the communities will continue to grow this funding."
 
James Bosley, President and CEO of New Hope Services, said, “We are pleased that the project has received the funding needed to restore the façade of this historic building. Restoration will not only improve the building for its future residents, it will also add further enhancement to the heart of downtown Elwood. We appreciate our strong partnership with OCRA, the city of Elwood, and the state of Indiana.”
 
When completed, the Leeson’s building will have 23 apartment units. The project also includes an additional 23 units of new construction duplexes and one triplex. All units will provide affordable housing for seniors and individuals with disabilities.
