The Bureau of Developmental Disabilities Services (BDDS) has clarified that children under the age of six and their families may apply for services under the FSW at any time. There is currently no age restriction for services under the FSW, nor is there a restriction from receiving First Steps services while also receiving services under the FSW for eligible participants.
A coalition of disability and aging advocacy groups has issued a toolkit to help advocates push for strong implementation of the new Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) Settings Rules in their states. The new HCBS Settings Rules require all settings funded by Medicaid HCBS programs to, among other things, provide opportunities for participants to be integrated in and engage in community life, have access to the community, control their personal resources, and seek employment and work in competitive settings. States have until March 2019 to transition their HCBS programs into full compliance with the new settings requirements.
Indiana’s Office of Early Childhood and Out-of-School Learning (OECOSL) has announced that applications are now being accepted from families in the five pilot counties who may be eligible for grants for their children to receive high-quality, prekindergarten education through the On My Way Pre-K program starting in August of 2016. Applications will be accepted until March 25, 2016.
Dr. Thomas Pomeranz has announced the availability of his newest training “Best Practice Strategies for Maximizing Staff Performance: In Place – Just in Time Training”. The trainings are designed for supervisors, managers, clinical staff and staff trainers who hold responsibility for the competence of Direct Support Professionals.
