-- To: Division of Disability and Rehabilitative Services Waiver Providers From: Shelly Thomas, Assistant Director, Bureau of Quality Improvement Services Re: Holiday Season Health and Safety Awareness Date: November 26, 2013 Division of Disability and Rehabilitative Services (DDRS) would like encourage providers to promote the health, safety and well-being of consumers during the holiday season as consumers are visiting family members and friends. Please take the time to reinforce the importance of family members/friends being knowledgeable of and implementing risk plans, especially in the areas of dining/choking prevention, fall prevention and the appropriate administration of medication. This is also applicable to ensuring substitute staff are knowledgeable of and can implement a consumers’ specific risk plan. “A Holiday Season Health and Safety Awareness Handout” has been posted to the Bureau of Quality Improvement Services’ webpage to assist providers in ensuring that risk plans are followed consistently in all settings. The Indiana Institute on Disability & Community (IIDC) recently launched its Building Leadership Series II. Targeted at supporting individuals with disabilities with opportunities to increase their knowledge, confidence, and leadership skills, the series will take place on March 12-13, April 23-24 and May 21-22, 2014. This event allows persons to network with their peers while building life-enhancing skills. For more information, check out the event brochure and applicant questionnaire.

#### Rauch will kick off National Disability Awareness Month with the 14th Annual Imagine Awards hosted at the Horseshoe Southern Indiana on March 1, 2013. The evening will include a dynamic speaker, silent auction, and the opportunity to honor three deserving award recipients. Click here for more details on the event or sponsorship. The final 2013 INARF Quarterly Professional Interest Section meeting took place on November 21, with over 150 members in attendance.
Following a full morning of concurrent sessions, the afternoon's General Session focused on an industry update and an overview of INARF's Rate Reform Workgroup's efforts to work collaboratively with the Division of Developmental Disability & Rehabilitative Services (DDRS) to explore rate restructuring options. On November 7, INARF and The Arc of Indiana came together for the Annual Joint Legislative & Critical Issues Forum and INARF's Seventh Annual Legislative Awards Luncheon. The day's events took place at the Crane Bay Event Center in downtown Indianapolis.
