Sharina Jones, a 35-year-old expecting her first child, was worried how she’d manage a stroller while in a wheelchair. By happenstance, Jones was paired with 16-year-old Alden Kain, a Detroit high-school student enrolled in a special design class, who was tasked with inventing a wheelchair stroller. Kain’s aim was to design something that would let Jones take her baby outside using her wheelchair. The video below shows Kain demonstrating and explaining his prototype after 6-months of work.
INARF member Putnam County Comprehensive Services (PCCS) had been eagerly awaiting work on an 8,800-square-foot addition to its Greencastle facility. On Thursday, September 24, the wait ended and the work begins. Several PCCS board members, staff and clients took part in a ceremonial groundbreaking at the facility on Tennessee Street which will encompass new habilitation programs, as well as office and conference space.

Effective July 1, 2015, supported employment follow-along (SEFA) was replaced with extended services (ES).
The Indiana Governor's Council for People with Disabilities (IGCPD) is seeking input about its Five-Year Strategic Plan. To get this feedback, the IGCPD is offering the opportunity to participate in one of six Town Hall sessions hosted in Evansville, Fort Wayne, and Fishers. Each location will have two different meetings times. Feedback from the Town Halls will be utilized in the development of the final plan which will guide the work of the Council, including its training and dissemination activities, the events it sponsors, and the projects it funds.
