State Senator Rodric Bray selected for Indiana Senate President Pro Tem, Announces Committee Chairmanships

The Indiana Senate Republicans have announced that State Senator Rodric Bray (R-Martinsville) was recently selected by his peers as the next Indiana Senate President Pro Tempore. Bray has appointed State Senator Mark Messmer (R-Jasper) as Majority Floor Leader, and State Senator Jim Merritt (R-Indianapolis) was elected Majority Caucus Chair by the Indiana Senate Republicans.

In accordance with Senate rules, the Senate Democrat caucus will also weigh in on Bray’s selection during the legislature’s official Organization Day on Nov. 20. The minority caucus has traditionally supported the choice of the majority members.

Additionally, Bray announced the Senate Standing Committee chairmanships for the 2019-2020 Indiana General Assembly.

“My fellow caucus members and I are well-positioned to take on the challenges before our state,” Bray said. “Much of the heavy lifting is done at the committee level, and I am confident that these individuals will lead with knowledge, integrity and hard work.”

2019-2020 Senate Committee Chairmanships are as follows:
Senate Committee on Agriculture – Sen. Jean Leising (R-Oldenburg)
Senate Committee on Appropriations – Sen. Ryan Mishler (R-Bremen)
Senate Committee on Commerce and Technology – Sen. Chip Perfect (R-Lawrenceburg)*
Senate Committee on Corrections and Criminal Law – Sen. Mike Young (R-Indianapolis)
Senate Committee on Education and Career Development – Sen. Jeff Raatz (R-Centerville)*
