President Elect Donald Trump announced Seema Verma, to serve as the Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
Seema is known to INARF members having presented at an INARF pre-conference event in 2011 and a leadership retreat in 2012. Seema's presentations to INARF members focused on implementation of the Affordable Healthcare Act and work with the Governor Daniels Administration. Most recently, Seema has assisted Governor Pence in the expansion of the Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP).
There has been considerable speculation that the incoming administration may favor a “block grant” approach toward Medicaid funding; however, with the appointment of Seema to head up CMS, folks are now speculating that the possible repeal and replacement of the Affordable Healthcare Act may look similar to the Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP) program and this approach would generally be inconsistent with Medicaid block grants.
