As week three of the Indiana General Assembly wrapped up, there has been a flurry of action over the last weeks. As bills are heard in committee, amended, and passed, the INARF bill track often changes. Included in this week’s legislative bill track are two additions that impact INARF members.
Senate Bill 321 authored by Senator Pete Miller (R – Brownsburg) is a local government budget bill which initially could limit county appropriations to providers who serve individuals with disabilities. INARF members, staff, and consultants are working with Senator Miller to address concerns and the potential fiscal impact to providers. INARF will continue to update members on the bill as it progresses through the legislative process.
House Bill 1012 is entitled Developmental Disability Identification Card and passed the House 93-0. The bill would enable individuals with disabilities to carry a card that indicates they have been medically diagnosed with a disability. Supporters testified to the importance of such cards as individuals work, volunteer, and participate in their communities as a way to ensure the individual’s safety and inclusion.
