INARF Member and State Use Approved Work Center Passages, Inc. recently opened its Creative Learning Center, providing enhanced programming focused on independence, socialization and community involvement/employment. The Creative Learning Center concept transitioned Passages away from the traditional sheltered workshop model into a unique classroom focused model. Leaving their Towerview Industries building behind, the Creative Learning Center is housed in the former Lehmberg Medical Office Building in Columbia City. Following a significant remodel, the office building offers a state of the art location designed to support the organization's new service focus with each room featuring a different course and curriculum designed to meet the academic, creative and social needs of those served by Passages. Curriculums are focused on but not limited to: academics, computer training, creative arts, healthy lifestyles, hobbies & recreation, life skills, music arts, and a senior program. The curriculum also includes Pathways to Employment, which prepares individuals for community employment through job exploration, volunteerism, job seeking skills classes and opportunities for paid work. Initial feedback is positive with individuals served noting the new space and the new opportunities for learning and work with appreciation. For more information or to take a tour of our Creative Learning Center please feel free to contact Alice Anderson, our Vice President of Programs and Services at 260-244-9360 or at [email protected].
