The Oregon Rehabilitation Association (ORA) has posted a video entitled The Cost of Compassion, which highlights the critical workforce shortage of Direct Support Professionals. The video emphasizes the low wages received by DSPs and the resulting retention and recruitment issues for service providers because DSPs leave to pursue jobs with higher pay to support their families. ORA would like this video to go viral, with a goal of 10,000 shares by the end of the day on Thursday, March 3. They need our help to achieve this goal, so please share the video with your social networks, staff, friends, family, board members, people you serve, neighbors, etc.
The video also contains a link to the Value the Work. Raise the Wage. campaign website. This website provides information about the DSP workforce issue, factors impacting the issue, and suggestions to address the issue. The website includes important information and tools we can use to educate the public, advocates, and policymakers about this critical issue.
INARF applauds ORA for working to increase awareness of the DSP workforce issue and encourages members to share the video and Value the Work website widely.
