Janus Developmental Services, Inc. has received notice that the Indiana Arts Commission has awarded a FY23 Arts Project Support (APS) grant to Janus for a “Photography and Technology” project. The goal of this project is to provide opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental differences to display their diverse perspectives through photography and technology. Janus looks forward to an impactful event that will be open to the public at Janus in May (which is National Photography Month) of 2023 to celebrate the diversity, inclusion, equity, and accessibility of this program along with Janus's existing programs to showcase the unique talent and skills that people with disabilities have. They envision this project to provide critical artistic skills to artists. Photography is an area of self-expression that individuals we support share that they have an interest in exploring. Currently, individuals use their cell phone or device to take photos to reflect and communicate the world through their eyes. If given access to the right tools and materials, the photographs can be enhanced through specific software and printed/framed for display and for sale. Photographers will receive commission for their sold work. When a photograph depicts a mood or place in a fashion that draws the viewer into that moment, it truly transcends any difference of ability (or disability).
