As the new Account Executive with Ability Indiana for just over a month, I have already had some amazing experiences. I have had the privilege of visiting a handful of participating Ability Indiana employment centers that manufacture goods and provide services for the state of Indiana. These visits enable me to see various facilities and operations but the most important thing that I have seen is the people. I have met inspiring servant leaders who relentlessly give their time and energy to helping individuals with disabilities, oftentimes putting their own personal interests aside to ensure individuals with disabilities find meaning in daily activities. And, as incredible as it is to meet the people who run the organization, it is even more amazing to see and meet the individuals with disabilities who are performing the work.
When I meet some of these individuals, I can instantly see how happy they are and how proud they are of producing something that someone else will use. These are the individuals that give the job that I have meaning, inspiration and purpose. Every day I come into work I am driven to help create a better future for not only the individuals that are employed at the employment centers but for the people who have not yet been helped.
To the employment centers and individuals that I have visited and met, I thank you for your time. To those whom I have yet to meet, I am excited to meet you so that I can better help your organization make a difference in people’s lives.
