Madison Seifer, a junior at Santa Monica High School in California and eight year Girl Scout veteran, wanted to bring people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities closer to the rest of the community.
For her Girl Scout Gold Award Project she decided to work to bridge the gap between the special education community and the general education community. To do that, Seifer launched a website called Bridging Our Circle of Friends. She plans to conduct workshops and lectures in which she will allow for the communities to bond and integrate.
“I hope to see visible change in not only how people view people with disabilities, but other members of their community,” Seifer writes. “After all, awareness is the first step to acceptance.”
