Last week, INARF and Arc of Indiana held a Freshman Legislative Luncheon, to give Members an opportunity to meet newly elected legislators. The eight legislators in attendance were presented with the 2015 legislative priorities of the two organizations and spoke with members about their organizations and missions, individuals with disabilities, and the services they provide. Senators who attended the Luncheon included Liz Brown (District 15), Erin Houchin (District 47), and Jeff Raatz (District 27). Also in attendance were Representatives Mike Braun (District 63), Chris Judy (District 83), Doug Miller (District 48), Julie Olthoff (District 19), and Donna Schaibley (District 24). INARF offers a heartfelt “Thank You” to all who participated. Events such as the Freshman Legislative Luncheon are an important part of INARF’s public policy work. While INARF acts as the unified voice of service providers in INDIANA, and is a regular presence at the State House, strong relationships with individual members are critical to ensure that legislators have a complete understanding of the critical role that service providers play in their districts. As the Long Session gets underway, member involvement is critical. Over the next several weeks, please watch your in-boxes for more networking and educational opportunities.
