ANCOR, INARF's national partner, is leading the Save Our Services Campaign in response to a proposed new rule on the overtime exemption under the Fair Labor Standards Act out of the Department of Labor that would greatly increase the salary threshold at which employees with managerial duties can be exempt from overtime. We expect the rule to be finalized in the spring, which means you would have to comply with it by this summer. Although we support its values, this unprecedented proposed rule will cost Medicaid Intellectual and Development Disabilities (IDD) programs over $1 billion that the program and providers of these important community services do not have. We are asking Congress to take preemptive action to provide temporary relief as well as permanent systemic change so that this successful program can survive in an ever changing regulatory environment.
Your Member of Congress needs to hear directly from you that this is a problem they need to fix. Please write to your Members of Congress about the proposed rule and ask them to support ANCOR's proposed legislative fix! We have provided a template email that you can copy and paste into the contact section on your member of Congress’ webpage. Feel free to personalize it with your own words and anecdotes. The more details you give about this rule affects you, the more compelling your message will be. We are expecting the Department of Labor rule to be finalized by May, so in order for any relief to arrive in time, Congress needs to take action immediately. This makes it critical that your Members of Congress hear from you NOW. Any message from you will make this issue gets and stays on Congress' radar. We need your help to carry the message to Members of Congress today. The links to each Indiana Member of Congress’ page are below. If you do not know who your Member of Congress is, click here.
