Action Requested: Please Complete Survey on Crisis Response Services in Indiana

The Division of Mental Health and Addiction is currently working on implementing a new 9-8-8 hotline and crisis response services in Indiana.  It is imperative that as this plan is implemented, individuals with IDD who are in crisis are included and considered.  We need your help to make that happen.  Please take the survey to ensure all people with crisis needs have access to appropriate services.

You are invited to complete a brief survey about the new 9-8-8 hotline number and crisis response services in Indiana. We invite you to also share this survey amongst your contacts, friends, and family members. We are asking for feedback from Indiana residents who will be using behavioral health crisis services or need behavioral health crisis services across the state of Indiana. Important to remember is that this information will help determine how Indiana develops the approach to serving Hoosiers facing a mental health, substance use, and/or suicide-related emergency. This survey was developed in partnership with the Indiana Recovery Council.

Here is a little bit of background: On October 17, 2020 the National Suicide Hotline Designation Act of 2020 was signed into law. This was done to “transition the cumbersome, existing 10-digit National Suicide Hotline to a universal, easy-to-remember, 3-digit phone number and connect people in crisis with life-saving resources.”

In Indiana, the Division of Mental Health and Addiction (DMHA) has been tasked with overseeing the planning and implementation of 9-8-8 in Indiana. As part of this charge, DMHA is also looking to increase the number of mobile crisis teams and crisis stabilization facilities across Indiana, with the goal of giving Hoosiers experiencing a mental health, substance use, and/or suicide-related crisis more options and a better experience when they reach out for support and/or relevant resources. Your participation in this survey will help us understand how we can build a crisis response system that you can trust and depend on.
