Abilities Services, Inc.’s Hires New Executive Director/CEO

On behalf of Abilities Services, Inc. Board of Directors, I am writing to share exciting news. We are delighted to inform you that after an exhaustive nationwide search we have selected Michelle Leonard-Smith as Abilities Services, Inc.’s new Executive Director/CEO. Michelle will officially begin in her new capacity on July 1, 2016.

​We received an overwhelming response to the job opening and feel fortunate to have had such a rich pool of applicants. We are confident that Michelle’s experience, knowledge, and integrity are a great match for the work, staff, and friends of ASI, and together with the leadership team we will continue to advance our mission in our local communities.

Michelle Leonard-Smith is a visionary leader who brings to Abilities Services, Inc. a deep experience in civic engagement, staff development, and a passion for those we serve. During her recent seven-year tenure as Director of Administration for ASI, Michelle worked with our Board of Directors to establish a management and organizational structure with a clear governance protocol, steward staff and consumer relationships, build strong corporate and community partnerships, strengthen programs, and balance community need with strategic growth and resources.

A native of Crawfordsville, Michelle’s career has spanned the nonprofit and manufacturing sectors. She has served in various capacities around the state, as well as being a key member of a start up of a local ethanol production facility. She holds a degree in Political Science from Ball State University.  Michelle, along with her husband Scott and two sons, Connor and Corbin, reside in Crawfordsville.

Smith is honored to have been selected and is eager to get started at Abilities Services, Inc., continuing to learn about our various programs and community initiatives and meeting many new people who help make our work so meaningful. As we are in the midst of the busy summer season, she will have an excellent opportunity to see our mission come alive.
