On August 1, INARF launched its “100 Visits in 100 Days” campaign to increase awareness of the industry and the important role that members play in the lives of individuals with disabilities, their families, and the community. INARF members were encouraged to contact their state legislators and candidates and invite them to tour their agencies, meet employees and the people that benefit from services, and witness first-hand the impact that providers have on the Hoosiers they support. The goal of the campaign is to conduct 100 such visits statewide in the weeks leading up to the election in November. The campaign is off to a great start, as Christopher Judy, the unopposed candidate for the State Representative seat for Whitley and portions of Allen County, visited the Creative Learning Center at Passages, Inc. in Columbia City on Tuesday, August 5th. Jason Meyer, President & CEO of Passages, gave Mr. Judy a tour of the Creative Learning Center, explained the differences between Group Home, Supported Independent Living, and Day programming, and reviewed INARF legislative initiatives.
"Chris was very receptive and asked a lot of key questions as to how organization's like ours are funded." stated Meyer. "This was a great opportunity to share the mission of Passages, give Chris a feel of how our Creative Learning Center works, and to introduce the legislative initiatives and goals of INARF." Meyer concluded. INARF is thrilled with the news of a successful visit, and looks forward to hearing many more in coming days. To assist member agencies in planning and conducting their own legislative visits, a100 Days Tool Kit is available. For more information, please contact Keith Digman or Christiaan Campbell.
