The sixth week of the Indiana General Assembly legislative session is ramping up. Committees are hearing a full load of bills and the daily floor calendar is filling up.
Earlier today, the Division of Disability and Rehabilitative Services (DDRS) Bureau of Developmental Disabilities Services (BDDS) announced they will host another Train-the-Trainer Core A/B Medication Administration session on Friday, March 11 from 9 AM until 4 PM. The training session will be held at the Indiana Government Center South in Indianapolis, Conference Center Room A.
INARF is pleased to have Melissa Keyes, Legal Director of Indiana Protection and Advocacy Services (IPAS), scheduled to speak during the General Session of Thursday’s Quarterly Professional Interest Section Meeting. During her presentation, Keyes will provide an overview of IPAS and an update on their recent activities, including changes to their investigation process and their recently filed lawsuits. She will also provide information about IPAS resources available to providers and individuals served.
The Damar Foundation has announced the addition of Steve Helmich as its new executive vice president. Helmich recently resigned his position as president of Cathedral High School after serving for 16 years. During his time there, Helmich helped raise over $75 million through four capital campaigns, annual fund appeals and additional gifts. During his tenure, enrollment increased by 200 students; the budget was balanced; technology improved; and new buildings were added.
Last week the Fair Housing Center of Central Indiana (FHCCI) and Indiana Protection and Advocacy Services (IPAS) filed two federal lawsuits alleging disability discrimination in two different housing settings. One case was filed against the Grandville Cooperative, Inc. and Kirkpatrick Management Co. Inc. of Indianapolis, Indiana. The second was filed against United Church Residences of Indianapolis, Indiana, Inc., and United Church Homes, Inc., owners of Capitol Station apartments in Indianapolis, Indiana.
