Our partners at The Arc of Indiana recently announced that Indiana Governor Mike Pence will be in attendance at the Self-Advocates of Indiana (SAI) picnic this Friday, July 24 at Eagle Crest Park, Indianapolis. Gov. Pence is joining the SAI picnic for a special reason – to conduct a ceremonial bill signing of Senate Bill (SB) 420. SB 420, which passed in the 2015 session of the Indiana General Assembly, will change all instances of the term “mental retardation” to “intellectual disability” in Indiana’s legal code. We invite everyone to join us for this important event as well as to join in the picnic fun.
The Arc of Indiana is seeking input from families and students enrolled in special education, as well as advocates and professionals in the field of special education, regarding proposed changes to Indiana’s high school diploma structure. Your input will help the Core 40 subcommittee, which was established by the Indiana Career Council, make recommendations to the State Board of Education. Click here to take the survey.
