Coinciding with the 25th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Ad Council and the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) launched We Prepare Every Day, a new public service advertisement (PSA) to raise awareness about the importance of being prepared for emergencies. We Prepare Every Day is the first in a series of videos showing people with disabilities taking charge to prepare themselves and their families for emergencies. The PSA provides equal access to all viewers and includes open captioning, a certified deaf interpreter, and audio description for viewers who are blind or have low vision.
Facebook, Microsoft, Dropbox, and several others are joining together to make technology more accessible to individuals with disabilities. These tech companies are partnering with education providers like Stanford and Carnegie Mellon University to create a work group called: Teaching Accessibility. The work group is set to examine human-computer interaction (HCI), engineering education, and design concepts that better cater to diverse populations.
