The INARF PAC is excited to announce its 2016 fundraising goal, which will be "16 in ’16". The INARF PAC will hold fundraising events throughout the year in an effort to meet our $16,000 goal.
The Indiana Family and Social Services Administration recently posted an update concerning many initiatives, which can be read in its entirety here. Of particular note to INARF members are the upcoming webinars related to the Pre-Admission Screening Resident Review (PASRR) redesign.
As INARF first reported in September, the US Department of Justice (DOJ) entered into a proposed settlement agreement with the State of Oregon in a class action lawsuit, Lane v. Brown. The State of Oregon was charged with violating the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Rehabilitation Act, and the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark decision in Olmstead v. L.C. The DOJ investigation showed that Oregon was in violation of Olmstead in that it over-relied on sheltered workshops as adult placements. Interviews with individuals receiving services indicated that they would prefer community-based employment and had the capability of maintaining competitive employment, but few were offered supported employment as an alternative.
Earlier this month, The Erskine Green Training Institute, housed in the Courtyard Hotel in Muncie and led by The Arc of Indiana Foundation, Inc., opened its doors to its first seven students. They will participate in the first of its kind teaching hotel focused on providing post-secondary education to individuals with disabilities.
The Indiana Family and Social Services Administration has posted a proposed settlement agreement in the class action lawsuit Baltzell v. Indiana Family and Social Services Administration et al. The lawsuit was brought against the Indiana Division of Disability and Rehabilitation Services (DDRS), the Indiana Bureau of Developmental Disability (BDDS), and the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration over the use of the Level of Care Screening Instrument (LOCSI) to determine eligibility for Medicaid Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) waiver programs.
