Makies - a London based doll maker using 3D printers to produce customized dolls - recently announced plans to manufacture dolls with disabilities. The dolls will include inclusive accessories liking walking canes, hearing aids, or glasses. The line will eventually expand to include wheelchairs.
On Saturday, senior pole vaulter Charlotte Brown earned third-place finish at the Texas state high school championships. It was the third time Brown had qualified for state, improving each time to win the bronze medal by clearing the 11-6. She has been pole vaulting since seventh grade, honing her specific technique.
INARF Associate Member Aglet Solutions is competing to win funding from Mission Main Street Grants®. To move to the selection phase, they need at least 250 valid votes. All voting will end on June 19th.
Maryland Governor Larry Hogan recently signed House Bill 1161 into law, which requires that self-advocates serve as educators in the training of police officers. The bill is titled Ethan Saylor Alliance for Self-Advocates as Educators. It is title is to honor Ethan Saylor, a 26 year old person with a disability who died in police custody in January 2013. The bill will go into effect on July 1, 2015; Maryland is the only state in the country that has such a bill. One preamble of the bill reads, “True inclusion of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, so that the individuals feel welcomed and accepted in their communities, starts with self–advocates having the central role in educating persons that interact with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.” For the original publication, please click here.
