Last week, three workers from Seneca Re-Ads, a facility-based employment center run by the County Board of Developmental Disabilities in Seneca County Ohio filed a petition with the United States Department of Labor for an administrative review of their wages in an expedited process. The workers were supported in filing their petition by Disability Rights Ohio, the National Federation of the Blind, the Autistic Self-Advocacy Network, and the Baltimore law firm of Brown, Goldstein, & Levy, LLP, who collectively published a news release announcing the action.
Scholarships for Self-Advocates to attend Governor’s Conference for People with Disabilities11/23/2015
The Governor’s Council for People with Disabilities is offering scholarships to the 2015 Governor’s Conference for People with Disabilities, which will take place on December 6 through December 8 at the Indianapolis Westin. Self-Advocates who qualify will receive a rate of $15 per person and up to $500 per group. Scholarship applications are due November 27. INARF is pleased to provide additional information on the Medicaid Equal Access Rule, keeping members abreast of national advocacy efforts to address industry issues. The American Network of Community Options and Resources (ANCOR), INARF’s national partner, has now posted its analysis of the Medicaid Equal Access Rule, which was issued by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) on November 2. The analysis provides an overview and background and describes the Access Review Plan monitoring requirements, including timing, methodology, data requirements, public input/inspection, and remediation. The Rule does not include Medicaid managed care programs or HCBS waiver programs.
As Anne Davis, Director of the Bureau of Quality Improvement Services, announced yesterday at the Quarterly Professional Interest Section meeting, BQIS will be hosting a webinar on November 30 at 9 AM (EST) to introduce their new Data-Driven Review Process, a new quality improvement initiative launching in January 2016. Participants will walk away from the webinar with an understanding of the Data-Driven Review process, a familiarity with components of the process, an understanding who is involved and what they do, and knowledge of how to access support throughout the process. On Friday November 13 Sarah Chestnut, INARF's Public Policy Coordinator, attended the First-Mile, Last-Mile Connections to Transit workshop offered by Health by Design, a coalition that works to ensure that communities throughout Indiana have neighborhoods, public spaces and transportation infrastructure that promotes physical activity and healthy living. The workshop focused on ensuring safe and accessible “first mile-last mile” connections to fixed-route transit service.
