In 2020 the Bureau of Developmental Disabilities Services announced the release of the revised Living in the Community: Medication Administration Curriculum; Core A and Core B. The revised curriculum is titled: Indiana direct support professional training: Core A and Core B, Curriculum 2020. Since April 1, 2021, provider agencies have been using the new curriculum and testing materials. As a reminder, per 460 IAC 9-3-6(b), ‘Indiana Direct Support Professional Training: Core A and Core B, Curriculum 2020’ is required for DSPs working in group home settings. For DSPs working in home-and community-based waiver funded settings, the new curriculum may be used to meet the requirements for medication administration training detailed in 460 IAC 6-16-3(b)(4)(C).
Direct support professionals certified through the previous curriculum to administer medications are not required to be recertified in the ‘Indiana direct support professional training: Core A and Core B, Curriculum 2020.’ Provider agencies can choose when to have their current employees trained on the 2020 curriculum.
