How do you follow up on a record-breaking year of PAC fundraising? You have another one! Last year, the 20 in '12 Campaign raised a total of $19,870 - the most ever raised by the INARF PAC. With a critical election season ahead, 167 individuals and 6 corporate contributors made the commitment to support the INARF PAC, knowing that their contributions would be used to expand INARF's influence with key lawmakers. With the support of these dedicated and determined contributors, the PAC reached 6 statewide candidates, 3 caucuses, and 43 General Assembly members and candidates in 2012. The INARF PAC did more than just deliver checks; it focused on building relationships. In coordination with the 100 Visits in 100 Days Campaign, many PAC contributors delivered checks while meeting with legislators or hosting them at agency facilities. By meeting with legislators locally, agency leaders and staff put a face on the provider community and demonstrated how their agencies made an impact on the lives of people with disabilities, their families, and the community as a whole. The message that providers make a difference, combined with a hand-delivered PAC contribution, resulted in impactful and effective messaging that resonated with newer lawmakers and candidates who were not familiar with the provider community or our issues. It also helped us reconnect with and thank the policymakers who have been champions for our industry. With the 2012 elections behind us, a new governor in office, and over 40 new members of the General Assembly, the INARF PAC is focused on nurturing the relationships we have developed and building on the success of the 20 in '12 campaign. To this end, 44 individuals and 3 corporate contributors have raised over $5,000 to kick-start our effort to reach $20,000 in 2013. With six months to go and a busy interim period packed with summer study committees, it is vital that the INARF PAC not lose the momentum and political capital generated in 2012. In the coming weeks, we will be launching a variety of activities to increase interest and participation in the INARF PAC. When considering these priorities, please keep in mind the value of INARF membership and the tremendous impact that legislative and regulatory actions have on our industry. To get involved, please contact Elizabeth Patel at the INARF office. Your partnership and support now will build a foundation for success in the next legislative session and beyond.
